Disappointment, Discouragement, & Depression

Disappointment leads into Discouragement then into Depression.

Why do we get disappointed?

Disappointment is an emotional responds to a failed expectation, desire, hope, or dream we have.

disappointed |ˌdisəˈpointid|
adjective
(of a person) sad or displeased because someone or something has failed to fulfill one's hopes or expectations... (of hopes or expectations) prevented from being realized.

Discouragement is a lack of confidence & being faint hearted.

discourage |disˈkərij; -ˈkə-rij|
verb [ trans. ]
cause (someone) to lose confidence or enthusiasm, prevent or seek to prevent (something) by showing disapproval or creating difficulties

depression |diˈpre sh ən|
noun
1 severe despondency and dejection, typically felt over a period of time and accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy.

O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You. Let me not be put to shame or [my hope in You] be disappointed; let not my enemies triumph over me.
Yes, let none who trust and wait hopefully and look for You be put to shame or be disappointed; let them be ashamed who forsake the right or deal treacherously without cause.
As it is written, Behold I am laying in Zion a Stone that will make men stumble, a Rock that will make them fall; but he who believes in Him [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] shall not be put to shame nor be disappointed in his expectations.
The Scripture says, No man who believes in Him [who adheres to, relies on, and trusts in Him] will [ever] be put to shame or be disappointed.
Our focus can create disappointments. Who or what we dwell on daily will determine our focus. Are we focused on who Christ is or who other people are? Are we focused on the circumstances or on the one who creates life.
God has the answers. He knows all. He knows right where you are at. He is working in your life.
And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

Disappointment, leads into Discouragement, then moves into Depression.
When you get discouraged you have a divided mind. You can’t focus ; do your best. You dwell on that one thing that is not what you want it to be. A job, a person, or a situation is not what you feel it should be. Daily it consumes you. A lot of times it is because we dwell on the past. Past failures, past relationships, & more.
Continuing in discouragement causes you to make the wrong decisions. It leads to having no hope. We are not of those who have no hope.
Trusting that God is working in you and in your life fights discouragement. It is about who He is, not who you are. It is His goodness, His power, ; His love.
Come out of that discouragement. Make a choice today. Choose to believe God. Seek Him, put away those thoughts and actions that are contrary to His ways.
Do not surrender to your emotions. You do not have to...
Turn to Him, He is with you. He is in control. He will work all things for your good.
Refused to be discouraged. You do not have to give into the circumstances of life. Walk by faith, not by sight or feelings.
Believe God has the ability to change your circumstances or to change you!!!
He loves you!!!
Don’t stay there! Stand up to those feelings! Don’t give into them!

Quote: Len Paxton, “You can still love someone, as a Christian, without receiving their discouragement into your heart and mentality. You must never accept anothers perception of you.... You Must; Must go on with your life. Just because someone makes you feel of no value; doesn't mean you are of no value. They may not accept your new found determination to live your encouragement and value and purpose in God and may accuse you of feelings that are not true. Thats on them... Love them and pray for them but walk consistently with those who encourage and value you.”

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind

“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;” 1 Peter 1:13 KJV

Response of obedience
13 Therefore, once you have your minds ready for action and you are thinking clearly, place your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
13 Therefore, get your minds ready for work, keep yourselves under control, and fix your hopes fully on the gift you will receive when Yeshua the Messiah is revealed.
Be alert and think straight..
So prepare your minds for service...
...preparing your minds for action...
...your minds must be clear and ready for action...
Rid your minds, then, of every encumbrance...
...when you have prepared your minds for action by being self-controlled...
So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”
Get your minds ready for good use. Keep awake...
So think clearly and exercise self-control...

MHC - Gird up the loins of your mind. You have a journey to go, a race to run, a warfare to accomplish, and a great work to do; as the traveller, the racer, the warrior, and the labourer, gather in, and gird up, their long and loose garments, that they may be more ready, prompt, and expeditious in their business, so do you by your minds, your inner man, and affections seated there: gird them, gather them in, let them not hang loose and neglected about you; restrain their extravagances, and let the loins or strength and vigour of your minds be exerted in your duty; disengage yourselves from all that would hinder you, and go on resolutely in your obedience. Be sober, be vigilant against all your spiritual dangers and enemies, and be temperate and modest in eating, drinking, apparel, recreation, business, and in the whole of your behaviour. Be sober-mined also in opinion, as well as in practice, and humble in your judgment of yourselves.

Kefa I 1:13
Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
13 Therefore, tighten the "readiness" gartel of your mind, a mind that is one of kibush hayetzer (self-control). Set your tikvah completely on the Chen v’Chesed Hashem that is being brought to you at the Hisgalus (Revelation, Apocalypse) of Moshiach Yehoshua.

Gartel ----Jewish law (Shulchan Aruch O.C. 91:2) requires that there be a physical divide between the heart and the genitalia during prayer. It is commonly explained that separating the upper and lower parts of the body manifests a control of the animal instincts of the person by the distinctly human intellect.

You have heard that the mind it the battle ground, this shows that more than ever. The mind battles between the flesh and the things of God. For they are contrary one to another.
Galatians 5:16-18
King James Version (KJV)
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Some these these scriptures say self control...My first thought is I can control my self? But is it the old self or the new self? That is the question. Our new self is controlled by the Holy Spirit, therefore we can be controlled. The Old Nature must die... We must let the Spirit of God led us and guide us. We must surrender each day.

Living up to others expectations?

We can get very discouraged if we are trying to live up to what others have planned for us or if we are trying to be who they think we should be. Is someone not happy with who you are? That can really be discouraging. BUT I say that God knows who you are and The Holy Spirit will work in your heart to change you into what God wants you to be. (conformed to the image of his Son) Sometimes what others want you to be is the opposite of what God is doing in you and wants to do through you. Don’t let others sidetrack you.
Sometimes the way others want you to be is really what they want themselves to be. It may be that God is working to change them and they put that on you. They don’t want to change, they want others to change.
Continue to look to God for things He wants to change in you. Don’t listen to others if it does not line up to the word and with what God has already been dealing with you on. Sometimes God does use others to work things in you. Sometimes He uses others to show you some character flaw that is in you. Don’t push that aside, surrender to the will of God in your live.

Romans 8:28-29
King James Version (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Colossians 3:10
English Standard Version (ESV)
10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Some people & things God allows to buffet us...

2 Corinthians 12:7
King James Version (KJV)
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

Conformed to The Image of Christ

Colossians 1:4
For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus the leaning of your entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness and of the love which you have and show for all the saints God’s consecrated ones...
Leaning of your entire personality...
Absolute trust
Absolute confidence
In His Power
In His Wisdom
In His Godness
Personality - visible aspect of ones character (collection of qualities) sum total of the physical, mental, emotional, & social characteristics...
Our personality should reflect His character...
We thank God for you and pray constantly for you
3-6 I want you to know by this letter that we here are constantly praying for you, and whenever we do we thank God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ because you believe in Christ Jesus and because you are showing true Christian love towards other Christians. We know that you are showing these qualities because you have grasped the hope reserved for you in Heaven—that hope which first became yours when the truth was brought to you. It is, of course, part of the Gospel itself, which has reached you as it spreads all over the world. Wherever that Gospel goes, it produces Christian character, and develops it, as it had done in your own case from the time you first heard and realised the amazing fact of God’s grace.
Wherever that Gospel goes, it produces Christian character, and develops it...
It produces Christ like Character....
Colossians 2:6
As you have therefore received Christ, even Jesus the Lord, so walk regulate your lives and conduct yourselves in union with and conformity to Him.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son...

OH My God that they may know You & Your Character, and that You change not. Show them that you are merciful, gracious, long suffering, & abundant in goodness & truth. A God who is slow to anger & abundant in love, that You are love. (compassionate nature)

These are just a few characteristics that we are to have in our lives, because they are characteristics of Christ...

As we place our faith in what Jesus did at the Cross, the Holy Spirit begins to work in us to conform us to the image of Jesus. Our personality then will show the character of Christ to others and in all circumstances. We will think like Jesus, walk like Jesus, talk like Jesus, have compassion like Jesus...We will be changed!!! We will not be as the world... We will not walk in our old nature, but our new nature will be reflected in all we do and in all we are....

KNOW, RECKON, YIELD
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Our personality should reflect His character!!!

SIDEWALK PROPHETS COMING TO TRAVERSE CITY MI

SIDEWALK PROPHETS COMING TO TRAVERSE CITY MI AUG. 24, 2013

We hold ourselves back...

We might have to go through hard times. We might have to go outside our box or do things that are uncomfortable, but God assures us that He will always be with us and walk us through those times...

He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee
Hebrews 13:5

Moses had to go outside his comfort zone when God asked him to be apart of setting the child of Israel free.

Ex 4:10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

We can make a lot of excuses...our past made me this way, I don't have what it takes, I don't have the money, I can't talk in front of people, I, I, I, I....

We look so many times at our own abilities, that we miss what God is trying to do through us...

I heard once never underestimate the influence you have on others. Everyone has some type of influence over others.

We hold ourselves back...we let others hold us back, we let things hold us back,...etc...

Do not Fear...

Do not Fear...
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Fear divides your mind. Fear stifles your ability to think & acts as you should. It affects your decisions.  Fear enslaves you.
Heb 13:6 be content...I will never leave you forsake you....

...so I may BOLDLY say...

The Lord is my helper;

I will not fear...

What can man do to me?

Helper - a cry for help...the word describes The Lord as poised and ready to rush to the relief of His oppressed child when they shout fir His assistance.

Must change my focus from fear to the word of God.

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
This all comes down to a faith battle...
Just because you cannot change something does not mean you have to continue to fear it. He said He would continue to uphold you. He may not remove what fears you. He is your anchor. He will not be moved.
Do not believe your feelings, but the testimony of the word of God...
He will protect you and bring you through...

The War of the Mind...

These are just a few scriptures that are out there on the mind. We let our minds run away so many times. It is very distracting. Once we start thinking about one thing, the imagination kicks in and we start imaging things that may or may not be true. That is why daily we need to keep our minds on Christ. Even when something is happening that may seem to be hurting us, God is still in control. God did not make us to be able to handle hurt, pain, and the things of this world. When Adam & Eve sinned these things came in the world. God has sent His Son to redeem us from these things. He gives us wisdom and peace through the muttering of the things that come in our lives. They speak, but we do not have to listen. They yell, but we do not have to respond. They threaten us, but we do not have to give in.

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Lamentations 3:20-22
King James Version (KJV)
20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Proverbs 29:11
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
Romans 7:23
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Romans 8:5
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:6
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God...
2 Thessalonians 2:2
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Hebrews 12:3
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
James 4:8
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
1 Peter 1:13
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

willing mind
ready mind
carnal mind
corrupt mind
one mind
lowliness of mind
fleshly mind
humbleness of mind
sound mind
sober mind
double mind
pure mind
grief of mind
sorrow of mind
steadfast mind
wicked mind
despiteful mind
right mind
doubtful mind
readiness of mind
humility of mind
reprobate mind
fervent mind

Philippians 4:7-9
King James Version (KJV)
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Dr Lester Sumrall:
At creation, God gave man a free will. You must realize this. God does not control the human mind. God did not make man to be a puppet. It is man’s job to take control and guide his own mind. At birth man’s subconscious mind is clean and pure. Then the subconscious thought machine begins to work. The devil becomes a master at filling it with any dirty rubbish that he possibly can. All personal sin you commit gives the devil authority to rule your subconscious being.

You and I must engage in and win these battles for our subconscious minds. But you must also realize that your born–again mind, renewed and washed clean by the Word of God, is strong and victorious. Here are several things you can do to protect your mind: 1) Don’t read pornographic literature. 2) Don’t listen to hard rock music with violent, sexual, and rebellious content. 3) Don’t take dope. 4) Don’t drink alcohol. 5) Don’t watch television indiscriminately. 6) Don’t go to adult movies. 7) Don’t allow anyone to hypnotize you. All of these things will open the door of your subconscious to the devil.

Remember, God will not control your mind, and the devil must not! You have the key … hold it!

Renew the mind...

To me to live is Christ...

Philippians 1:21

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Christ’s life in me gives me confidence. This makes me different from the world. We are in Him and He is in us. This is why I don’t have to be moved by my feelings.

When other people’s actions make you feel a certain way, you do not need to act on those feelings.

Your Father knows what is in you and how you feel about things. He knows your hurts and pains. He will use all those issues for your good...

Romans 8:28
King James Version (KJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Colossians 3
King James Version (KJV)
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ stitch on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful

What is your motive for what you do???
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ...

Think on these things...Jesus...
Philippians 4:8
King James Version (KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Finding your identity in Christ

2Cor 1:21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

2 Cor 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always caught us to triumph in Christ...

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Daily we come across things in life that try to define our identity. There are so many outward influences that could affect who we are. Daily we need to walk a life unaffected by those influences. Know who you are in Christ. You are not defined by friends, family, or jobs. God uses people and circumstances to make us more like Christ. The key is to be more like Christ, not things or people. If we get our identity in those things and those things are gone, who are we?
This is when the struggle comes... Who are we???

  1. 1 Timothy 1:18
[ Fight the Good Fight ] This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,
  2. 1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
  3. 2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
1 Corinthians 15:30-32

30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily
1 Corinthians 9:27
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Dance like no one is looking
Sing like no one can hear
Love like you never hurt before
Live like there is nothing to fear

Living in the now...

Living in the now...

Today is the day of....

So many times we are either looking back or planning for the future. We have made mistakes in the past & live back there. We question if we can make it past those mistake. We feel defeated & let fear of failure stop us from moving forward.

Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

2  Cor 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Rev 10:12 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ:

Ps 95:7
7 For he is our God;
and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice...

In Him you can be victorious...
You must believe and accept it all by faith...
Not by your good works, but because of what Jesus did at the Cross....
God wants us to spend time with Him now.  Trust Him now.

Father I need you today... Give me wisdom to walk with you today and to take the steps that will make me strong in you. Help me to overcome all my fears. I know I am your child and you want good things for me. Help me to walk in that truth. You are my only hope... You know the deepest parts of me. Forgive me for being lazy and distracted with lives daily activities.
